This was my first time out with a metal detector and I found this axe head in upstate NY. The metal seems to be bent around what would have been the handle, which seems like an outdated blacksmith technique. Does anyone recognize this kind of axe? 57D4D3E4-2CB3-4202-A096-58353F3D0B43.jpeg 641F855C-9800-4081-98BA-186370B86541.jpeg D55F3FBB-A1BF-490B-8BD6-0C6424F45768.jpeg 9C19DB34-8115-4E18-A262-060F33B485FC.jpeg

Cool hand forged axe. I grew up on a farm in Washington County NY that dates to the 1700's and found several axes there that were very similar to yours. Some had a side blown out like yours, and I assumed they had used them as a splitting wedge as the poll was peened over as seen on your axe.
