    Help ID an Insignia?

I have posted this to the "What is it" forum but thought you guys (and girls) might be able to shed some light as well. I found this insignia in a known civil war site where Sherman spent a few days before invading Savannah. The building he was in was built in 1734. Spanish Reales have been found there.

There are 3 lugs on the back. They are rectangular and all have a hole in them. They don't bend over nor are they pointed to pierce cloth or leather.

Any ideas on when this was used and what rank it might signify?

    Thanks,

    Daryl

Updated: It looks like the crown is used with a combination of other devices...

    Re: Help ID an Insignia?

    Thanks!

I've been there and several other places and the crown is not the same - no cross on top, Fleur de lis, bottom round not stretched like mine.

Close but no cigar? Hard to say.

    Yup - fair enough.

I was thinking that depending on the era, maker, or manufacturer they all might be slightly different. I really have no idea...

    Thanks Montana Elf Dude.

I think you are dead on. We are in the right place, just the wrong time, wrong branch, something.

    It's a great start.
