Any ideas on this rock...Aquamarine maybe??

I was metal detecting the beach on Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula, Mi this weekend when I spotted something shining in the morning sun. At first glance I thought it was a broken bottle but this is a very remote area on private property and you just don't find any trash here at all.
I have walked this beach collecting rocks for 3 years and have never seen anything like this before.
Any ideas???

It's 1.5" by 1" and 1/2" thick and it is translucent. My little girls have named it the Jewel of the Nile

Thanks for your response. It certainly could be Beach Glass based on those pics. Is there a hardness test I can do to get further clarification? The rock/glass/gem is as heavy as a regular rock...would Beach glass be lighter than a similar size rock?

More than likely is beach glass but would beach glass scratch a pocket knife or a razor blade?

The harder substance does the scratching.. must say it has a gem like quality for glass...a keeper.
