More on the Blue Rock-Maybe Blue Obsidian

I finally had a chance to drive 150 miles to hunt some more of this oddball rock. We didn't find the original scattering, but we did find 3 very nice specimens plus a handful of broken pieces. The largest weighs in at 255 grams, the next at 119 grams and the third at 24 grams. The handful total weight 118 grams. Attached are several pictures, Sunday I'll get some of the cleanup material.

I will be sending some of it to the Obsidian Lab in Oregon for analysis. I will let you know the results when I get them back

Here are a few cleaned up pictures. I'm pretty happy about this find. It has taken me almost 9 years to find this specimen

Nice pics. They are very convincing that what you have is definitely volcanic glass. Blue obsidian! :hello2:

Yes I agree. I have sent samples to the Obsidian Studies Lab in Oregon. They are being analyzed now. I should have the results within the next day or so. I will let folks know what the results are

I think you have a piece of opal. That would be my guess.
Not all opal has sheen, so it's possible.

I am very sure that is not opal, I've had my deal of work with those and am quite sure I'd recognize one. :hello: :dontknow:
