    what kind of rock is it

    weighs over 15 lbs......any good guesses?......any suggestions?

    from what I can tell is this was formed in a heated volcanic pool.....this pool has since long ago dried up.....the metal detector screams and pings the silver mode....get it wet.....knock the dust off.....not much change in color.....

    It looks a bit like smithsonite(zinc ore).

    Hanging in there....still finding cool stuff in and around the Bradshaw's....how about your self.....found any more good fossils? How is the rock cutting going did that mineral oil work out for you?

    Since it hits on the silver reading did you break a little .piece off to see if it looked like steel. Just a silly question.

    could it be some type of slag, you have any smelting or mining that went on nearby, was it found in a creek?

    Part of a black smoker?

    Off Oregon's coastline, black smokers are formed as chimney's from deep underground hot water vents. Some are known to contain rather strong mineral concentrations.

    Was it found near a "heated volcanic vent" as your earlier post suggests? At 15 pounds it might be worth getting a rough assay done.
