This should be an easy ID for someone in the know

I picked this up recently at a garage sale along with some other specimens, mostly quartz crystals and a couple geodes. This piece is 3 inches tall and 5 inches wide and has brown opaque six sided structures coming to a point. Any ideas, I can't find my Identification guide at the moment. Any ideas?

I'll take a stab at it and say that it is calcite. I hope this helps.

Not calcite, which is often transluscent.

Rather barite, I believe. Sometimes referred to as a "Desert Rose". The crystals in your specimen are slightly more defined than most.

The specimen is calcite. It is the crystal shape commonly called "dog-tooth spar".

Okay i've been researching your answers and the only thing I can find that looks like my specimen is a brown calcite cluster that is in a collection owned by Hershel Friedman at The Mineral and Gemstone Kingdom

Thanks for the help you all.

I think you are right, diggummup. I believe my suggest is wrong. I searched online for barite desert rose, and the crystal structures do not look at all like your photo. My bad.
