    IS THIS AZURITE?

I found this down by the Delaware river in Easton Pa. I was told that could be Azurite. It has purplish blue and green characteristics . Any info would be appreciated

    Thanks, Steve

    But it sure is beautiful!
Is there any transparency, if held in front of a light? I see some gold color in it.
Surely someone here will pipe in.

I held it up to a light like you mentioned and found no transparencies. Thanks for the comment

sorry, but there is no azurite to be found anywhere near where you found that. id say it was a chunk of cobalt glass slag, from one of the old bottle manufacturers that used to be along the Delaware river near Easton. most likely Phillips milk of magnesia.

Azurite? Who can say for sure? If azurite, probably not from the area, but rather brought in by someone. Lots of people there, so could be.

Don't think this is from cobalt-blue glass either. Or it has been heavily weathered. The white crusty stuff does look like an azurite-associated mineral to me, but I don't remember what it's called.

If azurite, it should fluoresce under UV light or black light. If you know someone who has such a light, any color change would be both significant and probably help with identification.

I agree, though: it is pretty!

    Maybe vauxite?

Pa has some really nice blue specimens of vauxite. Pa also has blue apatite.
