Hard to tell just from a photo.

Does have a schist look to me.

Have you dont a streak test?

Schist can have inclusions in the matrix, like garnet crystals, and is metamorphic (fire-changed) rock usually from very deep in the earth's crust. Should have a "sheen" to it, like gold lamae.

Most general rock collecting books should be able to help identify your new rock collection.

I'll look more into it but I hadn't heard of a streak test until I just now looked it up. Even with quite a bit of dust covering the rock it is still very glossy and sparkling. The edges which are layered like a phyllo dough pastry are too difficult to photograph because of the light reflection. If I tap on the rock with a fingernail it sounds like porcelain.

Muscovite a possibility, but you're beyond my skill level now.

Schist should look like it has multiple layers, so even greater possibility. Also very glossy, at least the few pieces I've seen. I think you're on the right track at least. :icon_sunny:
