    Any Idea?

    Tempted to try to clean the top of this, to see what has caused the rusting..
    Any idea what kind of rock?

    Yes, I found it on the beach. It's pretty heavy, for a small object.

    Why not break up a small corner or something to see a fresh surface? Could be a quart related rock. Reddish stains could be due to hematite.
    Geologists are gneiss, tuff, and a little wacke.
