    California. Perlite? These are from half dollar size to about 3in. wide

    AA, these are probably water worn, a "fresh" surface would be good to look at.
    Care to "sacrifice" one of them on a date with the hammer?

    Aack! Wear eye protection if you do. Obsidian is a volcanic GLASS - don't go whacking it with a hammer without being prepared for sharp shards going everywhere.
