I am going to guess it is a hand holding a rock..... but it could be a crystal....no one can tell anything from your picture.
Take the rock out of your hand, put it on the picnic table in the back yard, take picture of just the rock with just a little bit of table in the background. Take pictures until you get a clear one. It's digital, shots are free.

By the way, it looks like good old hard quartz, to me.

The rock you pictured is most likely quartz.
Quartz is the most common mineral found on the surface of the Earth and yes quartz does have a crystalline structure.

Does your metal detector sound off on it?

If there is gold in your specimen then either use hydrofluoric acid to eat away the quartz leaving the gold exposed or else crush it and pan out the gold.

As far as the geode goes....small amounts gold, silver, or other precious metals have been known on rare occasions to be found inside, so if you want......crush it and see

Do you have a rock crusher? If not, here is a link to the thread on how to make one:

Dangerous to hit it with a hammer plus the chips fly everywhere.
Also, stay away from the hydrofluoric acid unless you are experienced with it. Contact or vapor exposure is very dangerous.

Ditto to what GG say, Hydroflouric acid is VERY dangerous. Better crush it if your not willing to risk your life..
Geologists are gneiss, tuff, and a little wacke.
