No way to tell without knowing what type of stones they are, what their carat weight is, or what their quality is. Bring them to a few jewelers and get them appraised. They may even make you an offer. Be sure to get several opinions before selling. I hope they are worth a fortune!

    Ditto!

Also check directly which ones are damaged - put them away or you might get a lower offer as the jewellery has to sort which ones are ok and which are not.

They could be worth thousands of dollars, or less than a hundred. If genuine, they are absolutely valuable.
I would not think of selling them until they have been professionally appraised.

Let us know what they appraise at, I'm very curious.
    Hopefully they are genuine.

Re: can someone give me an approx value of these gems?

    Hi,
Nice collection. I'm seeing lots of different gemstones....some diamond, crystal, cz's, amethyst, topaz or aquamarine/blue zircon, perhaps rose zircon, green diopside? garnet, rough ruby?
I get the feeling they are a collection of birthstones. Still worth having an appraisal done I would say.

Don't let any of the clear ones go without using a diamond tester on them.
The last pic has colored ones in them that look like costume jewelry cuts
See how the top (table) is cut? The cut slopes up to the table which is smaller than the
otside edge of the stone. This was a common practice on glass costume jewelry

Re: can someone give me an approx value of these gems?

Huh? The table is most always, in almost any gem & design, smaller then the outside diameter.
    Or did I misunderstand?

I think most are commercial cuttings in the last pic, some are though difficult to say.

Re: can someone give me an approx value of these gems?

I am not a gemologist. That is what you need to see. It will cost you a few $ to have each stone checked/appraised/accurately weighed. But if you plan on selling, you will need that information for each stone.

Seeing that I am NOT a gemologist, I'd suggest your stones include: diamond, citrine, cubic zirconia (CZ), sapphire, ruby, emerald, garnet, aquamarine, topaz, amethyst, possible tanzanite, and several others not known to me. That's why you need a reputable gemologist's opinion on each stone. Be VERY careful of that violet/purple stone!!!

Ask for an appraisal for insurance purposes on each stone as well. Make sure you get each stone back individually labelled. I'm not certain I would take the whole lot in at one time. Be sure to take detailed photos of each stone before you submit them. Demand a written receipt for the stones, including the photos if possible with the receipt. Prepare the receipt for the stones before you enter the store or premises. Have the gemologist sign for the stones, along with a witness if possible. Need copies of the receipt for future reference if you don't get everything back.

Re: can someone give me an approx value of these gems?

True it's hard to say what anything is worth these days.. I mean I'm sure it worth more then anyone could pay you for them.. Yet.. Lets use this scale just to see what some of these gems could be worth..

Taking in account that the stones may or may not be real to some degree.. Lets assume that the most common stones or the larger ones (the dark hexagonal shape) could be dark sapphires and if they are around or about the size of a dime.. could be valued at or around $5,000 - $8,000 each.. but again.. lets not just head first into something hoping you'll get that much for any of it..

Again assuming that any of the clear facet cuts are real diamonds.. your looking at a few $100.00 per for the smaller ones and a more robust figure for the larger ones..

The point here is, If you want to have them appraised.. best spend the time and money and take them to a gemologist or better yet.. take a course in gemology and appraise them yourself. Lastly.. always keep in mind.. What something is valued at, is not always what some is willing to pay for it.. Unless it's extremely rare.

Re: can someone give me an approx value of these gems?

I took a bunch out of rings I bought from a yard sale. Took the stones to a few different jewelers each one had offers from really low to a fair offer price. Told me if they bought them they would have to make settings and blah blah blah. Sold to a private collector on carat weight per gem. Ended up being 100 dollars more than the fair offer. Also I dont think the number of posts that members have should reflect being new. I been here six years and up until last month I had 50 posts. Didnt have a lot to say now I cant shut up.

Blue I agree.. being new doesn't mean your a noob/newbie. I've been here off and on since Apr 16, 2010, 08:10:59 am and granted I asked the admins to remove my old posts.. and in doing so.. it removed my post status.. I never did like the ratting or scoring systems these type of forums have.

Your also right on the jewelry store with the blah blah comment.. best find a private collector if your trying to sell something.. granted I do have the pawn shop keeping an eye out for me when it comes to lose stones.
