Look what the chickens scratched up!!

Mending fence around the chicken yard and found this. A local rock shop said it was Saphire in its matrix. The outer material has metalic qualities, attracts a magnet. The Saphire is pink and has iridescent qualities.

That's a pretty cool find. I'm not sure if I've seen saphire in that state. nice
Maybe it's time to stop not doing what you pretended you can do and can't, and start doing the thing that you can't do, but can no longer pretend that you can.

Is it strongly attracted by the magnet?
Looks like magnetite, and I haven't seen of a sapphire seen in that kind of matrix either. Very nice!
Geologists are gneiss, tuff, and a little wacke.

Thanks, I think its pretty cool kind of looks like a sushi roll. It can't support its own weight but you can feel it pull. The rock shop I took it to didn't think it came from this area. They weighed it at 372 kt but I know alot of that has to be the matrix. It does have 6 distinguishable sides. If you notice the large end looks like it has been polished smooth. That is the way I found it. The area is rich with Native American artifacts so maybe it was traded from another area and used to grind other stone tools. I don't know, any suggestions? I really want to have it cut but then I really like it the way it is, at least for now. I was also told at the rock shop it would probably star.

That's cool. You should tape a chicken to your metal detector, then you will really get some stuff......
Due to the price increase of ammo, don't expect a warning shot!

Dang, told my wife your chicken found the sapphire and she said" see you didn't need to spend the $645 on a new detector." next time just make up a story how your new fangeld hightech long range gold and sapphire detector that only cost $$$$ found it. Thanks a lot pal.

Ok, sounds like pyrrhotite might be the matrix, either way; I'd leave it as is!
Not every day you some across one and then one that's even quite big!
