I just wanted to post this nice gift from a good friend in Arizona.












Pretty cool story to go with these and how they are products of desert that was once ocean floor and is still purging its salt.
Native Americans used these by breaking off pieces and grinding them to be used as a salty seasoning.

Very nice piece of selenite. I've only heard of selenite in Jet, OK salt flats. Easy, no fee collecting. 10 lb. daily limit.

I understand some bring egg cartons to protect and transport what they collect. Its pretty brittle.
Pieces that size aren't that unusual.
Now I need to locate ostrich egg cartons. Hmmm
like I said, fun,easy, safe, no fee, family collecting. Small plastic pail and shovel.
Just won't see me there in the summer heat or winter!
Not so easy when its frozen. Or fun! Lol
I think its open daily April thru Oct.

that is a nice example. I've had a piece for probably 35 yrs, & I enjoy it just as much today as I did the day I got it. It's amazing they are formed so beautifully

How brittle are they actually?
Has it become less or more over the years?
Don't think they'd weather well.
