Very odd rock?

Hey all,
I'm new here and could use some help trying to figure this out. Found this in a huge pile of dirt where they are dumping from new road construction. It weighs 7 pounds, but feels much heavier. Also very magnetic. For the heck of it I sent a piece to a lab, and recieved a letter ruling out being a meteorite, but the report said it was very high in iron content. It also appears to have copper in it from the photo showing green. Any ideas? Thanks

Could you please advise the name and address of the lab you used. I have a couple of pieces that I would like to have checked out. Was there a fee from the lab?

I had not thought of that! @ JohnnyFlake Yeah Johnny, it's New England Meteoritical, PO Box 440 Mendon MA 01756 It was 15.00 (check or money order, preferably a money order) and a two week turnaround or, you can pay 30.00 for a 3 day turnaround. You can also send up to three samples at a time. Just be sure to number, or label them

Not sure if what you have occurred naturally. Looks to be man made to me. Could be wrong. Interesting find none the less.

I was kinda thinking that too Brian. I did a streak test on it, and the streak is black. The black part on the top is also very brittle and hard to chip off, and when it does the little pieces are very magnetic also. Unfortunately I couldn't capture in the photos that there is some kind of very shiny silver metal in particle form, spread throughout, and in a few areas its a thicker coating of the silver stuff. I'll try to get some more photos. Much appreciated Brian!
