I haven't shared these photos with many people yet. I hope you enjoy them. These are some of our Opal specimens mined from alluvial deposits and bench deposits in North Carolina. Our geologist/cutter identified our finds. We have quite a variety. Some have play of color, others don't; but we love them all the same, lol. I love the purples, lavenders and yellows.

I am not very good in the water stuff but if you ever get through Hillsville Va just let me know and you could spend the day or a few hours and try your luck as you are welcome.

Might have to visit you sometime~ I'm currently working in the Winston-Salem area~ I've only had time to fossic about over at Hiddenite for grins and giggles. You seem to have a good nose for a rock hound ;) Keep thinking I'll head up Ashville way but I didn't pack for camping this far east~ I'm a Arizona desert man myself. To much green here..... hehh

I wanna find one!! How can u tell if it's an opal?

Glassy lustre, scratched by quartz among other are typical signs. The lack of crystal structure is another. :)
