I am a novice and don't know all the technical terms for rocks yet. This is brittle and was in a hillside with a lot of red dirt around it. Anyone got any ideas? 100_4113.JPG 100_4114.JPG

Yes, it looks like you have some different variations of Gypsum. You can find it up here in Montana in the "Bad Lands'' It's usually found in the red and purple soil layers.
