Strange find while looking for artifacts

Just Curious as to what this is called or how it occurs. The light colored area appears to have been knapped. I been hunting/ collecting for many years and have never saw anything like this. This was located about 1/4 of a mile from a well documented village site. At the very least it is interesting to me!

Hard to say if its a hand ax or not though it does suggest it may have been worked. The stone itself is a good example of a contact zone between what appears to be granite and a deposit of chert. The uniformity of the chert edge does make me wonder about it having been worked.

Thanks for the input. I reckon it doesn't matter what it is, I had a good time finding it! But I must admit it's still puzzles me.

I see what you are thinking about it, but that is just a common cobble with flint/chert attached. In Indiana, i find the same genre of rock in road fill. Has a nice story and memories with it, so of course you have to keep it!! I do that anyway...

Yeah I didn't think too much of it but it looked cool! Odd thing is it was 1/2 from the nearest road that is no longer there, the road is depicted on a map dated 1897. The nearest modern dirt road is 2 miles away. This area is only accessible by foot and helicopter lol. Mature tree growth in the area is an average 80 years old.
