Iron ore? Coal?

Found this in an area full of coal, iron ore and hematite.

You can find coal in conjunction with a number of different minerals. That hematite or iron stone are present may indicate that either the iron stone was mixed into the coal bed or that the coal bed is in contact with mineralized bed rocks that formed long ago. One thing you can look at are any geologic maps of the area and see if you can determine which is true for you finds.
