ZachSS,
First off don't know that it's the smartest move to just post a pic an ask "what is it?" without providing a little background info. And that one thing is prolly why any reply has taken this long. It helps to hear about where you got it. Did you pluck it from the ground? Or chip it loose from an outcrop or from a pocket exposed in an outcrop? Did your aunty give it to you?
Or did you find it in your neighbors garden? Did you bother to try an do a couple simple tests? For example: Streak, hardness, fluorescence, or specific gravity?
Sorry fer the verbal spanking but it would really help ifn there was just a little background info. Ok With all that bein said, from just a photo an a "what is it?"
It looks like malachite, if this helps.
Sorry Rock Hunter I literally had no idea what to put in the description. This was my first time finding something like this.
I appreciate the feedback and I will look into those things such as streak, hardness, and such.
I apologize for not giving much information but literally that was all the knowledge I know about minerals it's heavy and rough, lol.
I found it at an abandon house, that I'm helping to clean out.
The bottom of a toilet tank lid works for streak test. Hardness can be ball parked by seeing what will scratch it . A fingernail is about 2-3, a copper penny is about 3-4, glass or knife 6-7. Specific gravity is a bit harder unless your handy. I've built mine that uses a small gram scale.
While I haven't been involved with rocks any where as long as some of these people here I do find IDing from a picture is often difficult.
