What kind of opal is it? Where is it from? One alternative is to make a setting. A 8+ cts opal may well be worth a custom setting. Because you say, "thick", I assume it is a double sided cabochon? You cut those to save weight -- because weight adds value. If there is no play of colour on the backside -- it might be possible to reduce thickness. Upvote 0
