Don't think quartzite. Quartz is green when it have nickel in it. Another common green stone is Serpentine.

Quartz and Quartzite are related, but not the same. Quartzite can come in multiple colors without having ANY metals in it. Here's a good page on Quartzite:

Is it porous or non-porous? Meaning, if you place a bit of water on the dry rock, will the water soak in after a while?

I vote for serpentine also. Mine about 60 miles from here and the smaller pieces are left along the road for souvenirs. Look like these.
