I'm road tripping a bit with my four year boy, who absolutely loves looking for rocks. I took him to Crater of Diamonds last year and we stayed all day. The kid just did not want to leave.
Could y'all suggest any other places that are "kid friendly". We like to travel so distance doesn't really matter too much. I'm currently in Arkansas, thought about hitting the crater again maybe next week on the way out.

If you ever head out to Montana I would be tickled to show you and your youngun some areas to look for fossils.

Thank you. Might head that way closer to summer. It's been on my to do list for awhile. Montana is beautiful.

There is Crystal Park in Southwest Montana, where you can occasionally find amethyst, and the Sapphire mines in Helena and Philipsburg are nice to hit too! If you go to Crystal Park, bring mosquito spray though! Clear and smokey quartz crystals are pretty easy, even for kids to find there, and the scenery is really awesome! The sapphire mines are nice because the staff are usually very helpful, especially at the one in Philipsburg, they want you to find something!

These are some pics of the some of amethyst I have found, and sapphires I have found here, some, but not all of these came from Phillipsburg, they tend to be the most colorful though!
