#2 Do a hardness test: see if it scratches a knife! Could be several things; epidote, diopside, serpentine comes to mind.
#3 Serpentinite? Uncertain, do a hardness test.
#4. Epidote? Image is slightly blurry, hard to tell.

If the rock scratches the knife, then the knife can not scratch the rock. One has to be harder than the other, it does not matter which you scratch with, what matter is which one exhibits scratches.

so if it is soft enough to be scratched with the knife what could it potentially be?

Indeed it can. Tom got it right.

Here's one of the finest serpentine specimens I ever saw and cut:


If it scratches the knife, it's harder then the knife, we can rule out serpentine. Serpentine is scratched with a knife.
