Porphyry gold ore

I found a nice piece of what I think is gold ore. Could I get some help in comfirming without breaking the specimen? If it is gold I would like to keep it as is instead of chunking it for the gold. I'm not too experienced in identifying gold in matrix. I was just hoping someone might be able to identify or give me a likelihood using other methods of identification I'm not sure of like what other minerals are normally found with gold etc...heres pics and thanks for help! Also i shot a picture of the lunar eclipse today too!

These last 2 pictures are of a different specimen. Do you guys think this could be dendritic gold? Or maybe just chalcopyrite and bornite?

The first pics look kinda like granite to me. With pyrite. I'd crush and pan it!

Cool, thanks Eu! Do you think if i roasted it first i would get more gold then? It wld 'free' up more gold?

Also does anyone have any pictures of gold ore that you cant see the gold in? Id like to see any kind, but im most interested in the carlin type. I believe its a limestone type of ore that also has a jasperoid area to the body? Ive done some google searching and havent found much. Most are of same picture and poor quality not close enough

I agree with EU. Crush and pan is your best bet. Are you experienced in panning?

yes, i can get a spec of color every now and again panning in a creek, but nowhere near anything worth my time...just dont have any good ground around here in PA. I'm taking a trip to torch lake in michigan next month so I might do some digging up there and I was thinking about going to a kimberlite dyke in PA, but I'm unsure if visitors are welcome. The gates adah dyke

Torch Lake is incredible, I live about an hour from there...a lot of the rivers/creeks in Northern MI have good indicators of gold but nobody finds more than a few flakes. Lots of river bends with black dirt, Iron staining, etc.

In the Upper Peninsula they find gold, but that would be an additional 5hrs drive from Torch to mid/western UP. I've heard of the Manistee River having some gold, but looks like it would be tough to pan downstream from between Grayling and Kalkaska. Maybe do some searches and see if you can find any reports.

Considering the fumes created during roasting, I strongly advise against it.
Also, even if it were to be free'd up, it's not likely to be feasible to having to treat the ore for gold extraction on a small scale.

I figured that, but im just asking to learn as well. Then if someone elaborates on a certain subject i learn a little quicker about things and hear about special tricks or tweaks to do. But as always thanks for sharin :thumb_up:

Im going to crush the rocks up tonight and wanted to show you guys the rock crusher i had made. Ill post pics of hoe the pan goes too!

I just went to my local scrap yard and bought the steel for 25 bucks then had a friend weld it for me.
