found this in diamond bearing gravel

found this is some diamond bearing gravel. it is hard to see cause it was really hard to get even this decent of a picture of it, but it is pretty symmetrical. any ideas what this little stone is?

Its difficult to say what you have there and for such a small sample it'd be pretty difficult to test. There are a number of minerals that can fracture out that way, calcite, flourite, quartz on rare occasion, apatite.... such small bits pose a problem for hardness testing as it may destroy the specimen. You say you found it in diamond bearing gravels, where? is my question. The best way to determine if its diamond or something else without destroying it would be to take it to a gemologist for their best guess and their tools which wont destroy the specimen. If ya do I hope you'll come back and let us know.

found it in a bucket of tailings that i took home from crater of diamonds. which im aware those diamonds are generally brownish or yellow. as far as its shape it is like two upside down pyramids the picture is just horrible.

ya, yall are prolly right about the whole needing to take it to a gemologist thing. i got quite a few cool finds from the same gravel. I was gonna post em uo here but didnt want to totally bombard yall with pictures.

Photos 2 & 4 appear to have an octahedral shape. Could very well be a small Diamond!

Looks like a diamond crystal to me. I am not an expert but have read that water will not stick to a diamond. Any way to test that? Dunk it in water, and see if it is dry when you remove it.

Diamonds also have a greasy appearance. That yellow specimen looks greasy to me. I am guessing you could cut a hole in a window with either one. You were searching for diamonds in a diamond mine. My vote is you got a couple. Congrats, both nice specimens!

Wasnt at a mine per say but brought a nice bucket of tailings back from crater of diamonds in arkansas. Found some pretty neat rocks. Tons of jasper. Got a lot of lamproite or kimberlite w.e. its called still to bust up and sort through.

Looks like possible Diamonds by the shape! Maybe Halite as another possibility? Yea try glass test.

From what I hear, yellow diamonds are pretty common there at the crater (well, common as in the most likely color). I agree with everyone else, I'd be willing to bet you got a couple diamonds there

See i ran across halite in a book and it caught my attention but it was a poor exampe if memory serves me right....or maybe i just have poor memory

Halite is natural salt. Sodium Chloride just like table salt. It dissolves in water.
