I'll back EU's granulite. As IAMZIM says its a mix of granite and garnet. I bet it would cut very nicely.

Its a nice find, likely glacial float, very cool, I am south of you near St college been digging and hounding this area for years, keep posting your finds, well developed crystals in granite, it would be cool to source it

Very nice piece. I agree with the garnet identification and I would not break it up. This variety of garnet rarely gets into the gem zone.
