black like green

this is rather a dark looking stone but in the photos we can see the green tune and yellowish tints. what would you name this one? a jasper or what? or what not

probably massive (non crystalline) epidote. It often looks black until you get a thin section where you can see the color.

additional infos i have obtained from the stone here below:

specific gravity: 3,05

white streak

and i could hardly scratch one or two point with a knife blade (mohs 5-6,5)

that's a positive for massive epidote (silicified) - the silicates lower the SG (epidote is about 3.3, quartz/silica about 2.7) and both have a white streak - epidote will be a grayish off-white usually but it would be hardly noticeable. Hardness isn't a lock, but close enough for me, unless someone else has a better idea

silicified epidote is a great addition as i was a bit skeptical about SG, but with the silicate it makes sense.

there is only one suspicious point left to me. i couldn't find a similar photo looks like this one, with its complete, dark green tone. but epidote as a mineral have very same dark tone. so the silicified is again a winner to me!!

I'd chip an edge to look for cleavage. That, to me, would be needed for positive ID. Also test hardness with quartz, to rule out chalcedony or similar.

by the way, i have a similar one from the same place and same day. on this one, the colour is somewhat lighter and some dents coloured white here and there. also this was cutted by myself before, you can see the uniform structure within.

infos i have obtained from the stone here below:

specific gravity: 2,77 (somewhat lesser)

white streak

and i could hardly scratch one point with a knife blade on this one too (mohs 5-6,5)

huh, strange. The original picture you could see some green on the chipped portion on the front of it, once you chipped it, it looked on the inside more like quartzite/chalcedony. Your other one (in your last post) does look similar. Hard to tell just from photos so I'm not sure. The most recent one looks like it has reddish streaks in it which would indicate hematite in chalcedony/jasper.

I wonder what EU thinks...he forgot more about mineralogy this morning than I have ever learned
