I dug this rock out from my backyard, the rock is heavy and hard. It has green spots all over it. could you let me know what do you think it is?
it sure looks pretty, I am thinking of finding a stand for it and put it on my shelf.

1st - I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard LuckyGirl2018! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country). You might also consider adding your state (or country) to your displayed profile (SETTINGS -> EDIT PROFILE) so if you ask a question, etc. - people may have more success helping you (if necessary)...

2nd -I moved from What is it? over to Forum: Rocks/Gems for more exposure.

This one looks like quartz or quartzsite , the red is iron staining and the green looks like it could possibly be epidote, or, if the rock is really porous, it could be algae.

Just cracked it open, no green on the inside lol.
Looks even more like quartz now! If the green was an inclusion it would be on the inside of the rock as well, so I am thinking even more now that it is probably aglae.
