Dunno anything about rocks but it's "vein", not vain. Sorry, but if it were me I'd want to know.

I have more questions than answers. I will say this. It looks like a sliced concretion, and the center portion has been removed, revealing the chemical activity that was going on between the layers. Interesting, but we're not getting the full story.

I agree with Kray. It appears to be a holow concretion. I'm guessing limonite with hematite, the black. Nice contrast.
