Need help with the top and bottom layer of this one...

...maybe the middle to, I think the middle section is....quartz/chalcedony? the middle does not scratch with a steel knife and it does scratch glass, it showed no streak on a white tile. the rocky white layer on top also does not scratch with a steel knife and showed no streak. The bottom thin layer scratches easily and is rough in texture, it streaks white. I think I found this one in some landscape decorative stone but cant be sure, I have had it a couple of years. Thx.

Quartz/chalcedony would be a good guess. The soft white may be limestone or chalk. Gary

Agree with Gary, it's chalcedony but I think the layer on the bottom pic is a calcium deposit. If you want to, put a drop of HCl or muriatic acid on it and see if it fizzes (pool acid). If you don't have any try white vinegar and give it a minute or two to react.
