Peridot or something else?

Hello all, so my friend calls me to come over and cut a strange stone he has. He shows me this strange stone and he begins to cut. When he cut it open he tells me see those green things, I dont. He decided to ruin slice and then polish the slice lightly. Then I see what he is talking about. Any ideas as to what type of stone this is. Has a web-like structures on the side of the green stone. The stone has metal flakes. He said the piece I'm showing is only a fraction of the larger piece he has. Thank you for the help.

I'm pretty sure it's not peridot. Maybe epidote?

Any volcanos,extinct or active where he found it.Peridot is formed the same place diamonds are formed.

Hello all, he was giving this stone by another friend and there is an ancient volcano around 200 miles away. The only thing that I was told is that he found it in the San Bernardino, Ca. area.

I'm inclined to think its epidote as Jim thinks. Try figuring out its hardness. The crystal pattern is unusual though...

There's something off with that rock. Has he chipped a corner with a hammer and can show us the fresh surface? It has some resemblance to slag. But not quite.

This looks very much like slag. Even the crystalization on the "top" part of the piece looks like what happens when the surface of the slag cools. JMO, I am not an expert, but, being from a town that has over 140 years of mining history, I have seen alot of different types of slag, and I feel confident that it is. Hope I'm wrong, it's still a kinda neat looking piece! (BTW, I have pieces of slag in my rock collection!)

I'm inclined to make the same guess. Crystallization like that can occur in nitrate or carbonate rich slags, from my limited experiences.
