Spin off cap nut. Take off large “lid” by prying gently with kitchen knife at edge. Grasp threaded shank and pull/wiggle gently. Voila! Be careful when putting sealing lid w/o-ring back in...do not use oil, lubricant,Vaseline, etc. I just got the 2 pounder recently and it works phenomenally.
Now I’ll go read those directions...

Which part isn't coming off? I suspect it is the metal cap on the barrel, after unscrewing the cap nut. I use the washer - stick it sideways into the gap and give the washer a twist. The metal cap should just pop off.
