The foremost reason, is, somewhere, I have a picture of my grandfather picking rocks for my grandmother's rock garden in this exact spot. (I'm distraught because I can't find the picture, I wanted to post it with this thread!) The pond is actually a quarry pit, where native Americans dug for jasper for making stone tools. There are hundreds of pits all over this hillside. The tools I have pictured are NOT from here, it is a known archeological site, so no artifact collecting, but non-artifact rocks are ok to take. I came to get the ones with the vugs full of druzy quartz! You can see some of the tools I have pictured are made from this same jasper. They were found about 60 miles from this location. I am sure that they had to heat treat this jasper in order to get it to flake well to make the tools, in fact, I have a small scraper (no pic) that has fire pop holes in it, that is made of the red jasper, just like what you see I collected. It's a really late post, lol! I have been super busy with work and have not had much time to post stuff, but I have more of my finds from 2018 to post later, so keep a watch out! Hope everyone has good success rockhounding in 2019!!! Oh yeah, when I got done picking rocks, I went fishing in the creek below! Haha! 0721181350~2.jpg And this little guy was in the pond.....
