    Help Identify Please

Hi everyone. My name is Scott and I'm new to this forum. I am a high school science teacher in Arizona and I'm fascinated by Native American artifacts and their history in the area. We recently built a new house and found this basalt rock in our yard. It has been remarkably polished, has obvious hammering marks, and 3 flattened sides. It measures 4" x 3 1/2" and is 2 1/2" wide. The more pointed end appears to have been used as a hammer. Any help in identifying it would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to try to post some pictures. Thanks!Click image for larger version.

May I suggest looking at the other rocks/pebbles in the yard. If you have many that are rounded, I would say "waterworn". I found a rock that looked like a tool only to learn from a geologist that it was natural. TTC

I have many, many basalt rocks polished to a shiney finish from glacial action here in Montana. They are very, very common here.
