Just posted this to the "what is it" forum and probably should have posted here. Can anyone help with this rock ( found thrifting) that I think is an agate, but cannot find any double looking rocks or agates like this online. I'm not a rock/gem person (obviously) so was wondering exactly what this is or what type agate it is and where it may originate and what causes the double rock form. Thanks!!

No way to tell where it originated but it is an agate nodule. The double look to its formation is just how it formed. Nice piece.

Looks something like an agate limb cast. I have found limb casts with similar exteriors on many occasions. Some other types of agate formation, such as nodules, can appear similar, so it’s origin could be something else. Nice rock, regardless of where it came from.

Time for more coffee.

Nice piece. It is agate. Many times the quartz (agate) solution fills voids, like in limb casts, so lots of interesting shapes can ensue.
