You could look for some Petoskey Stone. Fossilized coral usually found on the shores of lake michigan and lake huron.

There is also greenstone on Lake Superior. You can get more info on it at:
http://www.isleroyalegreenstone.com/

Diamonds have been found in Michigan's upper peninsula but I'm not sure exactly where.

There will be a mineral collecting event in Houghton, Michigan this august. You can get more info about it at:
http://www.museum.mtu.edu/copper_country_mineral/index.html
Be sure to check out the "Minerals at the Mines" page to see where they will be going and what you can expect to find.

There is the Thunder Bay Mining Company in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Their website is:
http://www.bavarianbelle.com/tbmine/index.htm

Beyond that, I'd suggest hitting up the library for some local rockhounding guides for your area.
