Welcome! Flint is the official gemstone of Ohio. That is about it for Ohio, although the varieties of flint that can be found are sometimes quite colorful. There are also plenty of fossils and arrowheads to be found. Search online for Ohio flint and you will find the info you need to get started.

What part of Ohio are you in ? I have found calcite, fossils and flint in central Ohio.

Hey I used to live in Georgetown. White oak is full of good fossil banks. Awhile back (maybe 3 years) a college stundent from UC found a really nice fish fossil by the water fall when you leave town on 125.

Any of those creeks and streams would be good for fossil hunting but as for gems...........NADA in Ohio. There is gold down there in brown and adams county though.
