Very nice pictures Mike. I should build me one of those T-18 tanks! I could have a blast with that... litterally! Can you translate the inscription on the "common grave" picture?

no problem - "Eternal glory to the heroes who have fallen in fights for freedom of our Native land in severe battles with fascist invaders in 1941-1945"
Such inscriptions practically on 100 % of communal graves.

Thanks for the post - very interesting.

Always keen to see tanks - the T-18 was produced in the Soviet Union between 1928 and 1931 - reminds me a little of the Japanese light tanks from WWII.

I'm kind of an old armor nut so the tanks are pretty cool, The T-34/76 and T-34/85 are two of my favorite tanks.

I couldn't answer your message that you sent me because your mailbox is full....

But to answer the question that you asked. No I have no relatives that came from the USSR when it was still around. My relatives came from Poland (1865) and Germany (The part known as Prussia, in 1857).

I am learning Russian using an online course through the Army. There are many soldiers over here in Iraq whom I often work with who are from countries where Russian is spoken. Ukraine, Latvia, Estonia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikstan, and probably a few others. I am not very far along in my lessons. So far only some nouns, verbs, singular/plural, numbers, and some adjectives. After I finish Russian I plan on moving on to Polish.
