The horse is inside the egg when you open it and the hallmark is on the bottom of the base

The third segment of the silver mark shows it is from St. Petersburg during the period 1908-1926.
The number '88' converts to 916.6/1000 fine silver.

I can tell you that authentic Faberge objects from the House of Faberge in Russia were not made after the Russian Revolution in 1917, when the Bolsheviks closed shop in St. Petersburg. That would help narrow the date some. It does say Faberge in Russian cyrillic on it.

Authentic piece or not, I have no idea.

Good call, Molewacker. Yes, this looks like a copy of the famous "Bronze Horseman" statue here in Saint Petersburg. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_Horseman It's a pretty famous landmark.

lol, I take things for granted sometimes. Like assuming "we" already knew it was Peter the Great. However, it's not a copy of the Faberge Peter the Great egg that Nicolas II presented to his wife Alexandra in 1903.

In my opinion, this egg shows close to the same quality of the one I posted in reply number 8 and I believe would be valued similarly. Though it won't command as much without the box and it's not quite as elaborate as the one I posted. If it were mine and I was interested in selling it, I would still contact a high end auction house such as Sotheby's, get their opinion and go from there. If it's worthy, you will hear back from them.
