scrapping jumper cables and extension cords for copper
i went to a garage sale this weekend that had a lot of
jumper cable sets for sale. they wanted $2/ea and bought
6 larger size. i ignord 2 skimpy 6 footers. i know
some do use aluminum now. so if they are alum i can just use
for orig intent.
also got a 300 ft extension cord for $3. it marked 14/3.
i know the cables are different lengths and gauges.
but if possible i would like a ballpark estimate
on about how much copper would be in one and
what u can get for it.and the extension cord by running foot.
i know there are guys at my auction that do these.
occasionally no one is there and the stuff go CHEAP
I would like to be an informed buyer of these.
thanks for ur help

Re: scrapping jumper cables and extension cords for copper
so if i did my math right...300 ft of 14 ga and has 3 wires.would equal
1 lb of copper every 26.5 ft. so......at least 10 lbs of copper here. x
about 2.50 scrap value/lb. should get 25 -3 or about 22 dollars
gain

Re: scrapping jumper cables and extension cords for copper
If I were you I'd put that 300 foot cord on Craigslist. $50.00 min. asking price. Even though it's only 14/3, it would still be fantastic to run lights or a small power tool. Worth way more than scrap.

Re: scrapping jumper cables and extension cords for copper
man do I feel stupid I see jumper cables at yard sales all the time and not once did I think about stripping them for the copper. You can bet I am going to be looking a lot closer from now on and picking up several of them from now on.

scrounger,
You have, by far, the most annoying avatar I've ever seen. Is your purpose in life just to annoy people? If so, you have succeeded. Moving avatars are always dreadful, but yours takes the prize. Once I see that you have posted on a thread, I avoid that thread like the plague. I just can't stand to watch it.
