simple wire stripper for tv degaussing coils?

I found a bunch of links on the web describing various types of wire strippers, e.g.

    http://www.econostrip.com/products/858/
    http://www.ctrecycles.com/page/1457941
    http://www.americanrecycler.com/1204spotlight.html

Most of them are pretty expensive. Currently I am only stripping tv degaussing coils and doing it by hand which is pain in the neck. I was wondering if any of you used any of these wire stripper machines for either degaussing coils or regular insulated wire (e.g. various power cords)? Are they worth it?

    Thanks

Route a groove in a piece of 2" x 4" x 24" lay wire in the groove, run a single edge razor blade or utility knife blade down the wire / cord. Pull the insulation off in one piece. Beats trying to unwind the tape(?) off degausing coils. Unscrew the screw from the yoke & slide it off the picture tube. Whack the whole thing with a hand sledge hammer. Pick up the copper & sweep the rest into the trash. Then on to
I know it's here, just need a bigger coil!

How much are you getting for the copper? I have a bunch of old monitors that i probably won't be able to sell. Maybe i could make some back by doing this too?

A lot of variables. Depends on where you are, the price of copper for that day etc. The best way would be to call the junk yards near you. Don't know about other areas, but here sometimes the price per # will go up or down by as much as 20 cents a pound in a day. Also, here the recycling centers pay almost 1/2 less than the big yards. They buy and then sell to the big yards too. I drive 11 miles further to almost double what I get . Better in my pocket than theirs!

Just as an example, yesterday I got $2.70/lb for this copper at my local yard (MD near DC).

One thing I don't like about scrapping this type of copper is that the rest of the monitors/TVs are a pain to deal with. They take up a lot of space, they are heavy and you don't want to drop them. Also, you are supposed to dispose of them properly. Fortunately, where I live the city has a very strong refuse/recycling program so they pick up residential escrap once a month from the curb.

    Hi Ilyaz,

Which yard gave you 2.70 a pound? Did you go to Potomac or try another yard?
