    ever run across linotype?

If any of you forum members run across some linotype or monotype pm me if you would. I am looking for around 50lbs or so to make up some bullet casting alloys. Don't know if this is the right place on the forum but if you guys scrounge around like I do I'm sure someone has a bunch of it!

I have not heard that word in many years. I used to work for a printing company that had two of those linotype machines. We got them from the L.A. Times newspaper when they converted to offset presses. I still remember the Twilight Zone episode called "Printer's Devil" starring Burgess Meredith. Whatever he typed into the linotype, got printed in the newspaper, and happened.

Now back to your topic. You might check around town and call old print shops and ask if they still print with a letterpress. If they say not any more ask if they have any of they old type left. Also ask who they used to buy their type from. Many smaller print shops would just buy the lead type from another company that had a linotype machine.

Might be a bit pricey but check out some of your local antique stores vendors. Type and trays always seem to be a hot item. They might be able to put you on to someone that has a pile squirreled away.
I know it's here, just need a bigger coil!

You can buy it on ebay, but expect to pay $1/lb or more.
    God Bless!
