dirty brass is brass with other metals or paint on it.


Excessive oil or paint will cause your clean red or yellow brass to be considered as dirty.
Brass with iron, aluminum or any other metal, even in very small quantities, attached to it is considered dirty brass.
Wood, glass or other non-brass contaminant make brass dirty as well.
Copper is not considered a contaminant because it is used in the production of brass, so it will not qualify brass as dirty. If there is enough copper attached to the brass then it may be considered a Copper #3 material instead of brass.
