If you find blobs of silvery colored metal in the ground while MD and it feels too be on the light side, them most likely it is melted aluminum. It is melted because most likely it has come from a building fire or a trash pile fire. Any kind of open flame it hot enough to melt aluminum. It does have some money value as scrap metal of course but often the scrapyard will only give a low grade aluminum price for it. This is because since it is melted aluminum then they cannot tell what kind of aluminum it orginally was. In other words they don't trust the metal (not you) so they cover themselves and low ball it. Figure about 12 to 25 cents per pound. Sometimes they pay a little more but it is unusual if they do. They tend to err on their side when they can figure out how to do so. Regards, Chris Hyder.

If you melt the blobs of aluminum metal yourself into bars or ingots you could very well get first rate prices on it as scrap aluminum. It will have to look very good in appearance though meaning no dirt, air bubbles or crusty looking stuff in your melted aluminum. Scalemasters at the scrapyard can be very picky and often look for an excuse to downgrade your stuff to a lower paying scrap grade. On the plus side if you make ingots of aluminum you can sell these to a lot of the guys who make backyard castings of aluminum items in small furnaces. This is what they are looking for as stock material. regards, Chris.
