Hello all, i wanted to share with everyone here who may not know this..... Scrap catalytic converters are worth a ton of money. while i dont exactly know what the best cars are to find them on i do know that the prius, certain Fords, and certain Honda catalytic converters are 600 - 1300$+. I purchase several hundred converters per week from our shop in B.C. Canada. We are Ccon Metals. If anybody wants to know more i would happily share all i know and answer any questions.

thats too bad, i know theres some bad juju around them and the people who deal in them. they are worth more than most of the parts found on a car in scrap.

Hey CCON, welcome to T-Net.

I know you maple leafs got the company PMR up there and that PMR is the leading refiner of cat.cons on this continent.

Anyways, I have possession of what we in the states call a "Hotdog sensor" or a "Honda straight sensor" off an older Honda Civic.

I sent a photo to a scrapper and he offered $300.

How much should I counter-offer with?

Thank you in advance.

You would need a 'junk dealer' license. My friend had one. They are difficult to mess with but can be pretty profitable.

I tried to reply to this over the weekend but weather at the time made connections iffy.
The local wrecking yard owner actually commented on the Honda sensor assembly whole was fetching $650-800 Canadian.
Yes the convertor market is high-with some going for like the OP stated in the first post up.
At the large scrap company they ding a person $25 for no battery-$75 for no Cat.

In 2006 I was paying $3.00 for an aftermarket and getting $5-6 holding it for a month or two.
Nothing in them so to speak of, low recovery.

Like Ccon says some are worth quite a bit and some hardly anything. I would guess if you called a scrap dealer they would know more

Original cats are worth the money, aftermarket cats are worth considerably less.

I was looking for a headliner for my Samurai several years ago, when I got the big idea to eye-search wrecked cars for the pocket change rolling around. Mind you, I have a neurosis about picking up change on the ground; maybe you understand!
I saw several coins, grabbed them, then went onto some other wrecked cars to look. One car in particular, there was some blood and other 'debris(?)' on, in, and under the carpeting. It really hit me pretty hard, and I haven't been to a wrecking yard since, and the Samurai is still in the back yard. :(
