They may be fully made of Tungsten Carbide or atleast tipped with it. I think that is worth A little bit.

hmm, good eye.
Never tot dat much about it. Seriously, around here they use them as decoration on fence posts and mail boxes. I thought it was just a bunch of tight krauts trying to get the most bang for dere buck.
Let me do some checking around and get back wit ya.

Some bits can be retipped, or reworked for resale. In Houston,Texas there used to be Mac Tool, The owner reworked bits for resale. A diamond Headed bit has Industrial diamonds. Try a oilfield tool company to see if anyone in your area buys them for reconditioning.

most drillers throw them away, it costs them more to have them rebuilt then to switch them out as needed.
they are made of high grade steel with diamond coat teeth, even then, depending on the rock they only last about 4000 ft

I guess if you could find someone to rebuild it and they would guarantee it, it would probably save quite a bit in the long run
