    There was a Grand Central hotel in Ashville in 1880. It could be from one of their uniforms. (you're in NC, right MM?)

    wait, the front is sideways in the photo... those are initials... could be for a railway, I noted they did make railway buttons. GC or CG railway?

    M.C.Lilley & Co Columbus O (Ohio). They started making buttons in 1876... That's all I can find.
