Cracked coil or scratch?

Previous owner didn't think it was a problem...
is this ok or do I need to get it fixed? I do plan on submerging. We tested it and it seemed to work but signal would kind of be sporadic... is that what a cracked coil does?
How much $ are we talking to ship this thing to get it fixed?

is it a big scratch is is it cracked though

If it's cracked through and allows moisture to get in the machine will go beserk - you won't be saying it "seemed" to work.
