Truth, I haven't run into this problem with mine, but I checked Garrett's web page and this technique for retuning the pinpointer is listed...

To retune the standard PRO-Pointer II, use a quick power off and on process to shrink the detection field. To tune out saltwater, wet sand or highly mineralized ground, hold the tip of the pinpointer to the water, sand or soil as you turn on the power—thus instantly adjusting the pinpointer to the environment.

Don't know if this will help and I'm sure you've tried new batteries without solving the problem.

Sorry Truth, forgot that the PRO-Pointer II is not the carrot. Here's the retuning description from the carrot's manual...

Fast Retune for Mineralized Ground To tune out the detection of saltwater, wet sand or highly mineralized ground, hold the tip of the Pro-Pointer AT Z-Lynk to the water, sand or soil and quickpress the button () for an instant Retune. If necessary, repeat this Fast Retune to further eliminate any environmental response. Note: An alternate means of eliminating the ground response is to reduce Sensitivity.

Are you sure you got the real pointer and not the Chinese versions.
ebay has both so send them back and ask for a full refund.

I was just gonna ask that Rodger.

Someone on here posted theirs and I put mine up for comparison...looking at the bottom a dealer here could tell for sure theirs was fake.

T...put a pic of the bottom of yours up showing the black sticker. There's some subtle differences in the real a fake ones.

I would call Kellyco and get a refund or exchange them for a Minelab pinpointer and let us know what they say.
Post a picture to compare with others on here.

You should get the Minelab pro-find 35.

I used a pinpointer a couple of times and gave it away.
I have many years detecting and never use them.
A waste of time and money.

They need to make a pinpointer that will discriminate Iron. I would be a buyer for that. Nothing worse than nail after nail when looking for the prize in trashy soil.

Truth, here's hoping you can get the problem resolved with the Carrot's one way or the other. I know this has to be frustrating.

When buying pinpointers on eBay you can return them for a full refund if you're not satisfied and they pay return shipping.
So if you are buying from a dealer I would ask them about returns before buying from them. Saves a lot of grief.
